Infrared lamps are low pressure tungsten halogen heat lamps. The filament is tungsten surrounded by a halogen dosed gas and encapsulated in a transparent quartz glass sleeve. These lamps have a short wave infrared output and heat by direct radiation to the object in the path of the energy.
Jacketed lamps have an additional free-moving glass sleeve to protect the inner sleeve from any outside contact that can cause heat spots and reduce the life span. In addition the jacket stops inner glass (if shattered) from falling into food.
